A Fresh Water Lake in Kerala

The Pookode Lake is a beautiful fresh water lake near Kalpetta. Pookode in Malayalam means a "Flower Basket".The lake is surrounded by dense forest that gives refreshing and endless greenery around the Lake. The Blue water lily flowers growing all around the Lake, gives it a very attractive look.
Boating is the main attraction of the Lake. Boats are available for rent but visitors are not allowed to touch the Lily flowers while boating. Visitors love to take a walk around the Lake and enjoy its natural beauty. The Lake is also a photographer s delight. There is a fish aquarium, children s park and garden nearby. The sunrise and sunset are splendid from here.

In the recent past some commercial developments have been done near the Lake that has affected its natural wildness.
The Panamaram stream which further becomes Kabani River, originates from the Pookode Lake.
The Sree Narayana Ashram is located very close to the lake which is surrounded by amazing flora and huge trees. The Ashram had a gallery of painting and sculptures. But sadly only the structure is left over now.

There are a few handicrafts shop near the lake owned by Uravu from where visitors can buy the local crafts of Kerala. Tribal medicines and spices are also available in these shops.
